“I was a restaurant manager, working way too many hours,” she said. “I was getting married, wanting to start a family and needed more flexibility.”
Real estate offered Mallory the chance to serve in a different way. She earned her real estate license in 2016 while still working in the restaurant business. Once she passed the test, she went to work as a property manager and never looked back.
She started out covering for someone going on maternity leave but turned it into a full time career.
“It’s kind of ironic,” she says with a giggle. Mallory is expecting her second baby in June and is currently training someone to cover for her while she’s out.
Mallory has been an agent with Premier Valley Realty since 2018, as well as the property manager for Cypress Property Management.
Why Real Estate?
Mallory grew up helping her dad with his work in property management.
“My dad was in property management in the Bay Area and I would go to work with him,” she explains. “The homes were so different from what I was used to here in Fresno.”
Mallory would help her dad switch out light bulbs, replace doorknobs and do whatever jobs a little kid could do. “It piqued my interest in homes, (she wondered) if homes like that existed here in Fresno.”
When the opportunity to work in real estate came around, she jumped at the chance to change careers.
“My very first transaction was a short sale,” she laughs. She also acted as agent for the seller and the buyer. “I thought, if I could do that, I can do this job!”
What is her specialty?
Mallory does two jobs in our building. Not only does she sell real estate, she is the property manager for Cypress Property Management, a division of Premier Valley Realty.
“When I came to work with Brian we had four properties,” she said. “Within the first year we grew to 40.”
Mallory helps investors find properties to add to their portfolio and provides guidance to tenants who want to become homeowners.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
“Helping people who need to move and then finding something that fits their needs — and not just the bare minimum,” she said. “I like helping them start a new chapter,”
She builds long-lasting relationships with her clients and is excited to watch them make their house into a home.
She especially enjoys searching for the perfect home or something that can become their dream home.
“I love keeping an eye on the market and seeing new listings,” Mallory said. “It’s an ever-changing business.”
How has it been working from home during the shelter in place?
“It’s been challenging but rewarding,” she said, referring partly to the challenge of working at home with her “assistant” — an active toddler.
“I’m never in my life going to have this time at home again, seeing him all day, every day,” she said with a smile in her voice. “He’s been learning his colors and trying to use the potty — he’s so different now!”
What are her goals for the future?
Mallory is eager to continue to grow Cypress Property Management, in addition to her sales business. “We just got six properties this week, which is crazy during a time like this,” she said.
But for now, Mallory is looking forward to meeting her new baby girl next month and spending time with her two-year-old son.
